Rye and Ginger Kits   

Rye and ginger kits provide you with most everything you'll need to complete your project. However you do need to supply a few things.

Before you start your kit be sure you have the following:

• Scissors
• Sewing machine with a new needle
• Zipper foot
• Button hole foot
• #14 sewing needles
  
• See-thru ruler
• Thread - black or white
• Iron and ironing board
• Awl (see picture below)
• Grommets and grommet setting tool
• Hammer - to use with the grommet setting kit mentioned below

Grommets are NOT included because some people have them and it adds to the cost of the kit. If you need to purchase grommets Rye and Ginger suggest the "Set-it-yourself" Grommet setting kits that can be found at the following link - the lnk will take you to brass ones but Vogue has nickel grommet kits to.

There are grommet setting pliers out there but...well, if you've ever used one for corset making you'll know why we recommend the hammer setting type! Ginger strongly suggests not investing in grommet setting pliers - she's never found a pair that work well.

Tips

Check your sewing machine to see if the needle can move to the right or left - this is an advantage . But you can still make the corset kits without one.

• The zipper foot is NOT optional, you must have one in order to sew in the busk.
• The button hole foot is also NOT optional.
• The scissors are to snip threads, and trim the plastic bones.
• The See-Thru ruler will be a huge help when you trim your seams.
• Ironing your seams as you go will make for a nicer looking finished product. If you're going to go to all the effort of sewing the kit - take a minute or two to press - you'll be glad you did.
• The  awl can be bought at Vogue Fabrics there is a link at the bottom of the page. You NEED an awl to apply the busk.
• Grommets are needed in order to lace up your corset at the back.
• A seam ripper is also a good idea...for the obvious reason :-) you can get one at Vogue Fabrics if you don't have one.
